Ghost of Yotei
Sucker Punch Productions · Sony Interactive Entertainment · Open-World Action-Adventure
Sofía Sarcástica's Verdict
“They made the same game again and somehow it's still incredible. I'm furious about it.”
The Review
Sucker Punch took everything from Ghost of Tsushima, moved it to Hokkaido, and turned the volume up. New protagonist Atsu is compelling, the world is breathtaking, and the combat is even sharper. It's hard to be cynical about something this polished.
The open world is enormous. Mount Yotei dominates the skyline like a constant reminder that you should be exploring instead of doing your fourth fox den. And you will do that fourth fox den, because this game knows how to make busywork feel good.
Combat adds a stance-switching system that makes every encounter feel like a puzzle. When it clicks, you feel untouchable. When it doesn't, you're mashing dodge like you're playing a rhythm game you didn't sign up for.
The story takes its time. This isn't an action movie plot. It's a slow burn about identity, duty, and what you owe a land that doesn't want you. Some people will love that. Some people will check their phone during cutscenes.
Photo mode is still absurdly good. Half my playtime was just standing on a hill watching leaves fall. That's not a joke. That's the review.
What It Nails
- +Combat is best-in-class for open world games. Stance switching adds genuine depth without overcomplicating things.
- +World design is staggering. Every biome feels handcrafted. Exploration is consistently rewarded.
- +Atsu is a great protagonist. Quiet, conflicted, layered. A welcome change from the usual open-world hero template.
What It Botches
- -Open world fatigue sets in around hour 30. There's a lot of content, and not all of it earns its place.
- -Side quests range from incredible to generic fetch tasks. Quality control is inconsistent.
- -PS5 exclusive. In 2025. Cool cool cool.
Who It's For
If you loved Ghost of Tsushima, this is more and better. If you like open worlds that respect your time (mostly), this is one of the best.
Who Should Skip
If open world burnout is real for you, even a beautiful one won't fix that. Also: no Xbox, no PC. Sorry.
Marketing Roast
Sony marketed this with cinematic trailers showing zero HUD and maximum atmosphere. The actual game has a minimap, quest markers, and a notification every time you pick up a flower. The vibes are real. The UI clutter is also real.
What Others Scored It
I can roast your game too.
