The verdictβCanada and Qatar traded another draw in a Group B that is quietly turning into a 1-1 production line.β
The Performance Review
Canada had a home crowd in Vancouver, a point already from their opener, and a golden chance to finally grab their first ever World Cup win. Instead they got a 1-1 draw with Qatar, which is the football equivalent of ordering dessert and being handed the menu again. The point keeps them alive in Group B, but the win they have never had at a World Cup stays just out of reach.
Qatar, also arriving on the back of a draw, will take this one more happily: a second point on the board and another respectable result against a co-host. It was tight, tense and cagey, the kind of night where both sides looked more afraid of losing than hungry to win. Group B is rapidly becoming the place where everybody shakes hands and splits the points.
Who Got Burned
Canada's hopes of a statement home win, deferred again. On their own turf in Vancouver, with everything set up for a breakthrough, they settled for another draw and now need a result in their final group game to be sure of anything.
The Bright Side
A point at a World Cup is never nothing, and Canada stay unbeaten and in contention in Group B with it all still to play for. Qatar, meanwhile, keep proving they can frustrate bigger names: two games, two draws, and nobody has run them over yet.
