She Did It Again

Tyla & Zara Larsson · Pop / Amapiano

7/10

The Roast

Tyla and Zara Larsson released She Did It Again on April 17 and the song is exactly what both artists do best, which is also exactly what they have done before. The amapiano-pop fusion that put Tyla on the global map continues to be one of the freshest production palettes in pop music. Zara Larsson's vocal sits comfortably alongside it without overpowering anything. The hook is properly catchy. The arrangement gives both vocalists space to do their thing without competing. The song will be on every summer playlist. It is also recognizably the kind of song both artists could write in their sleep, which makes it pleasant rather than important. It will hold its own on the charts. It will not hold a place in either artist's legacy.

The Bright Side

The amapiano-pop hybrid that Tyla has built her career on continues to feel genuinely fresh in a way pop production rarely manages. Zara Larsson finally has a feature that matches her register without forcing her to do somebody else's style.

Hardest Sneer

She Did It Again is a perfectly engineered single that will earn its streams and disappear from cultural memory the moment the next Tyla song arrives. Both artists are operating at the floor of their talent, which is still well above most peers.
