Hell Let Loose: Vietnam

Developed by Expression Games · Team17

Tactical Shooter · PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S · 2026-08-13

Delaying your jungle shooter two months after the beta got picked apart is the right call, which does not make the wait any less annoying.

Cynical Sally reviews the games

Well, you were supposed to be playing this in June. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam was locked in for June 18, then Expression Games and Team17 yanked it back to August 13 after the open beta and a round of internal playtests turned up enough problems to justify the slip. The beta itself went fine on paper, peaking at 24,000 concurrent players on Steam, but the feedback and the testing both pointed the same direction: not ready.

On ambition, there is plenty to like. The series is trading its World War 2 roots for the jungles of Vietnam, shipping six large-scale maps and the authentic 50 versus 50 chaos the franchise is known for, and it has moved up to Unreal Engine 5 from the original's UE4. The appetite is clearly there. The polish, apparently, was not.

And here is Sally being fair: shipping a broken tactical shooter in June would have been the worse crime by a mile. Delaying to act on real beta feedback is the adult, correct, faintly boring decision. It still stings to watch a primed and ready audience get told to come back after summer. Want my verdict the day it actually lands? I will tell you. Drop your email below.

What it nails
  • 01

Listened to the open beta instead of shipping on a date out of pure stubbornness.

  • 02

A meaty package: six large-scale maps and authentic 50 versus 50 combat at launch.

  • 03

Rebuilt on Unreal Engine 5, a genuine technical step up from the WW2 game's UE4.

  • 04

The beta drew a healthy 24,000 concurrent players, so the appetite is clearly there.

What it botches
  • 01

Slipped from June 18 to August 13, a two month gut-punch for everyone who was hyped.

  • 02

The open beta and internal playtests exposed enough issues to warrant a full delay.

  • 03

Delayed for quality is the right call and also the oldest line in the entire industry.

  • 04

Asking a primed, ready audience to cool off through the summer is a momentum killer.

Who it's for

Tactical-shooter sickos who would rather wait for a polished 50 versus 50 jungle than play a broken one in June.

Who should skip

Nobody yet, because there is nothing to play until August 13, which is precisely the problem.
