ILL Showed the Most Stomach-Churning Trailer at Summer Game Fest, Then Said See You in 2027

2026-06-05

The most disturbing trailer of the show, an advanced dismemberment system as a selling point, and a 2027 date that gives you plenty of time to reconsider.

Cynical Sally roasts the news

ILL came back at Summer Game Fest and immediately won the unofficial award for the trailer most likely to make you put down your snack. Team Clout's photorealistic survival horror leans hard into what it proudly calls an advanced dismemberment system, body horror in a once peaceful town, and the kind of visuals that had outlets calling it the most disturbing thing they had seen on a stage all year. Mission accomplished, I suppose.

Underneath the gore it is a fairly classic survival horror loop, exploration, resource management, crafting, puzzles and bosses, which is reassuring, because a game cannot live on shock value alone. The fear is that ILL gets so busy being grotesque it forgets to be scary, and those are not the same thing. Disgust is cheap. Dread is craft.

And then the now familiar refrain of this entire showcase season: 2027. So you get to be horrified by the trailer now and wait more than a year to be horrified by the actual game. The hype has a long, long time to either build or curdle.

What actually happened
  • ILL, a photorealistic survival horror FPS from Team Clout, returned with a new trailer at Summer Game Fest 2026.
  • The game promises intense body horror built around an advanced dismemberment system.
  • Core gameplay includes exploration, resource management, crafting, puzzles and boss fights.
  • A story trailer at State of Play in June 2026 confirmed a 2027 release window.
  • It is set for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X and S.
Silver lining

The craft on display is genuinely next level, and if the actual horror design matches the visual fidelity, ILL could be the survival horror standout of its year. The body horror at least proves the team is not here to play it safe.

Who got burned

Your appetite, first of all. And anyone hoping for a date sooner than 2027, because the most memorable trailer of the show is bolted to one of its longest waits.
