Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Finally Shows Up, Then Quietly Tells You to Come Back in 2027
2026-06-05
“Square Enix closed Summer Game Fest with the trilogy finale, then quietly told you to wait until spring 2027.”

Summer Game Fest saved its biggest swing for last, the first proper look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final chapter of Square Enix's remake trilogy. Director Naoki Hamaguchi showed Vincent Valentine in action and players soaring from the airship Highguard straight down into the open world below, which is exactly the kind of seamless flex that makes a trailer pop. It looked gorgeous. It also looked like a promise rather than a product.
The genuinely good news, and credit where it is due, is that there is no timed exclusivity this time. Revelation launches simultaneously on every platform, so for once nobody is held hostage to one console maker's cheque book. After two games of Sony first deals, that is a real concession to the fans who simply wanted to finish the story they started.
The catch, of course, is the calendar. Spring 2027. So you get to watch a stunning couple of minutes of Vincent and an airship, then sit on your hands for the better part of a year. A reveal this polished with a date this far out is half gift, half cruelty, which is, honestly, very Final Fantasy.

Dropping timed exclusivity is a genuine win for players, because the whole trilogy can finally be finished wherever you already play. And the seamless airship to open world traversal hints at the most ambitious of the three games, if it lands the way the trailer promises.

Anyone hoping to play it this year, because spring 2027 is a long time to live on a single trailer. And arguably the console exclusivity model itself, now that even Square Enix has admitted locking the finale to one platform was never worth the goodwill it cost.
Got something the world should see roasted? Drop it.
A full teardown from €2,99. No mercy.
