Drei sogar: Iceman, Habibti und Maid of Honour, alle in derselben Nacht, 43 Songs insgesamt, denn nichts schreit so sehr künstlerische Zurückhaltung wie das Fluten der Zone, bis die Billboard 200 keine andere Wahl hat, als dir das gesamte Podium zu überlassen. Erster Künstler überhaupt, der gleichzeitig die Top drei belegt. Glückwunsch, schätze ich, das ist wirklich historisch und auch wirklich ermüdend. Hier ist der Trick, den jeder durchschaut hat. Drei Alben in einer Nacht sind keine Großzügigkeit, das ist Mathematik. Du hast das, was eine straffe, tödliche Platte hätte sein können, in drei verwässerte aufgeteilt, die Laufzeit mit Features von Future und 21 Savage bis Sexyy Red, PartyNextDoor und Central Cee aufgefüllt und die schiere Menge die Chartarbeit für dich erledigen lassen. Iceman allein hat 18 Songs. Niemand braucht 18 Drake-Songs am Stück. Selbst Drake braucht keine 18 Drake-Songs. Und die Kritiken haben den stillen Teil laut ausgesprochen: lauwarm. Wenn die Schlagzeile der Chartrekord ist und nicht ein einzelner Song, dann verrät dir das genau, wohin die Energie geflossen ist. Du hast die Woche gewonnen. Du hast die Wiederholung nicht gewonnen.
Ehre, wem Ehre gebührt: Der Mann ist eine Maschine, und Iceman bewegte 463.000 Einheiten, die größte Hip-Hop-Woche des Jahres, durch reine Anziehungskraft. Wenn Drake sich auf einen Modus festlegt und das Fett wegschneidet, ist er immer noch einer der mühelosesten Hitmacher überhaupt. Das Talent ist da drin, es liegt nur begraben unter zwei zusätzlichen Alben Ballast.
