The Review
Mega Crit took one of the most addictive card games ever made and somehow made it more addictive. Every new mechanic feels like it was always meant to be there. The new character classes are inspired and the procedural generation creates genuinely surprising runs.
The art style upgrade is gorgeous without losing the original charm. The difficulty curve is punishing but fair, and the meta-progression gives you reasons to keep coming back long after you have beaten the heart.
Where it trips: the early access period left some balance scars that are still visible, and the tutorial does a poor job explaining new systems to series newcomers. Also, your productivity is about to die.
What It Nails
- +New mechanics that feel essential, not bolted on
- +Art style upgrade that respects the original
- +Procedural generation creates genuinely unique runs
- +The kind of addictive that should require a warning label
What It Botches
- -Some balance issues still linger from early access
- -Tutorial is weak for newcomers
- -A few card synergies feel overpowered
- -Your free time. It is gone.
